Program and Position Overview

Our Family Support Service offers individualised supports to meet the specific needs of children, young people, and their families.

 

Our service provides:

  • Family Time and Supervised Transport – Opportunities for families to have positive contact, supporting relationship building and permanency for children and young people.  

  • Supervision and Support – Where unexpected events result in placement supports being required, or to support children and young people during placement breakdown.

  • NDIS Supports – Support for children and young people with an existing self-managed NDIS plan, including mentoring, improving daily living, community and social access and participation.

  • Education Supports – Providing education opportunities for children and young people who are suspended or unable to attend school for periods of time.

  • Mentoring – To support children and young people with Social and Living skills

  • Family Preservation – Working with families where there is an imminent risk of children and young people entering care, to identify and build on strengths to keep families together.

 

WCF is aiming to become an accredited NDIS Provider within the next 6 months and the successful applicant in this position will be critical to this exciting new venture.

 

Key Position Responsibilities 

  • Ensuring all of our services are delivered in alignment with a trauma informed, person centred approach within the scope of the program and NDIS Plans.

  • Work collaboratively with WCF Casework and Clinical Staff, Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ), NDIS Providers as well as other stakeholders to identify and support outcomes for Children and Young People.

  • Provide Leadership through a strong understanding and knowledge of NDIS processes, to ensure the provision of services to children and young people in line with their NDIS plan is purposeful and demonstrated.

  • Manage the workflow and allocation of tasks within the Family Support Services Program, leading a team of permanent and casual staff in the implementation and delivery of therapeutic and disability services using a trauma informed, strengths based and culturally appropriate approach.

  • Provide committed and effective Leadership which includes analytical, strategic and reflective thinking and the ability to function collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary Leadership team. 

  • Possess highly adaptable communication skills and the ability to address difficult issues in an appropriate and respectful manner, maintaining effective working relationships with all WCF staff. 

  • Support the delivery of collaborative supports, with respect to the culture and context of each individual child or young person’s circumstances, inclusive of family and community.

  • Assist in the collection of data to support the ongoing development of the program and be actively involved in continuous improvement and quality assurance processes.

  • Ensure all required paperwork is consistent, comprehensive and meets the required program standards.

  • Identify skill gaps in the Family Support Services team and support education pathways to promote an increase in ability - including training, mentoring and supervision.

To be eligible for this role:

  • You will have a minimum Diploma or Degree in a relevant field and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in working with children, young people
    and families.

  • You will have experience working in the Disability Sector and a working knowledge of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

  • You will be a strong, committed and collaborative leader who is courageous and assertive when making decisions and problem solving.

  • You will have a continual desire to learn new approaches in building a responsive, high performing and productive team and the ability to work at an exciting pace.  

  • You will possess a high level of attention to detail with superior skills in time management and organisation, and a proactive approach to self-development and growth.

  • You must be a calm and confident communicator, able to adapt information to a diverse audience.

  • You will be keen to build and nurture relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.

  • You will consistently promote and develop positive culture, advocating WCF’s Vision and Values and support staff in doing the same.

  • You will engage critical thinking to formulate and assist in the development of policy and procedure, and will assist with the operational management of the program budget and finances in line with current processes.

  5. Provide details of your adaptable and high-level communication skills, including both verbal and written communication.

  6. Provide details of your experience in reviewing or assessing reports or similar documentation.

  7. Detail your ability to meet set targets and Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s).

  8. Demonstrated ability to self-motivate and work independently, as well as working cohesively as part of a team.

    1. Hold a current and cleared Working with Children Check

    2. Can provide a National Police Check (obtained within the past 12 months)

    3. Can provide a Current Drivers Licence

    4. Have access to two referees from current or previous Managers

    5. Will provide copies of Transcripts and Certificates detailing qualifications

    6. Will disclose during interview any information that could impair performance in this position, which should be considered by the panel when assessing applicants
