Independent Living Program

What you do:

  • Care and support up to four young people aged 15 - 17 years
     

  • Help them grow and achieve their goals
     

  • Support their life skill development 
     

  • Teach them how to cook, to drive, support them in getting a job, develop relationships and help them with their school work

What we provide:
 

  • A fully furnished, 6 bedroom home including a detached granny flat on a 3998m2 landscaped block in a quiet residential suburb
     

  • A funded vehicle with mechanical costs, registration and regular servicing covered by WCF (fuel is to be covered by carers)
     

  • A safe home for young people to grow and achieve their goals.
     

  • Highly skilled and educated therapeutic carers, providing personal support and modelling behaviours that assist a child or young person’s transition to independent living or leaving care.
     

  • Individualised mentoring for each young person, to support the development of skills in areas including domestic skills, social activities, finance, budgeting, and other identified needs.
     

  • Support with education and vocation, including assisting young people with homework and being actively involved in their schooling including attendance of school activities such as sports days and parent-teacher nights.
     

  • Support with physical, emotional, spiritual and social wellbeing including general medical care, dental care, dietary and health needs, mental health, medication, sense of belonging and value, church and spiritual activities, sexual health and education.
     

  • Provide clinical supports to assist in trauma healing and to support positive behaviour support, including the development of therapeutic support plans. 
     

  • Active participation in building and maintaining the young person’s relationship with their family members and significant others where appropriate.
     

  • Transport for young people to and from appointments, recreational activities and family visits.
     

  • Regular Care team meetings involving all parties working with the young person, including Clinician, Caseworker, Carer and Young Person where appropriate.
     

  • Case Plan management and review, inclusive of all relevant parties, including Medical Services, Therapists, Caseworkers, Department of Communities and Justice and other service providers or governing bodies.
     

  • Regularly maintain all documentation in relation to Carer activities linked to the goals set out in each child’s Case Plan

Other Information:

You will receive:

  • $120,000 carer allowance yearly (for two people)
     

  • Access to Centrelink benefits
     

  • All household expenses (excluding food) are covered by WCF
     

  • A funded vehicle with mechanical costs, registration and regular servicing covered by WCF (fuel is to be covered by carers)
     

  • Clinical support
     

  • Training to support your development 
     

  • Mentoring sessions for each young person
     

  • Chaplain support if needed
