Strengthening families, changing lives

Chaplaincy, Wellbeing and Support Program

Our Chaplaincy, Wellbeing and Support team provides a holistic, caring and supportive network for children and young people through a variety of evidence based and practical programs. This includes Mentoring, School Holiday programs, Kids Clubs such as Guys Group, Brick Club, Girl Power, Minecraft, Swimming, Run Beyond and Cooking Club.

These programs are designed for our children and young people to create connections with others and learn new skills as well as provide placements support.

We have a full time Chaplain who works in this program to provide spiritual and pastoral support to our children, young people, carers and staff.

Mentoring

WCF Mentoring supports and enhances a feeling of connection and belonging through appropriate supportive relationships and supports that help develop meaningful connections with family, friends, school and their community. This can be one-on-one or group based.

Through mentoring, our goal is to provide a meaningful opportunity to foster new skills and experiences, provide spiritual and emotional support, increase a child or young person’s self-esteem, self-care, health and fitness as well as improve communication and interpersonal skills.

School Holiday Program

School Holiday Programs provide fun, goal oriented activities for children and young where they can explore, learn and build friendships. These programs are fun and exciting opportunities to create connections with friends and the community. Activities have included days at the beach, trips to Sydney, cooking, hiking and much more. They also offer placement support by providing additional respite during the school holidays.

Kids Club

We provide a variety of Kids Clubs that run in the afternoons after school. These programs focus on providing a safe, relaxing and fun space for children and young people to spend their time, building healthy and supportive peer relationships and developing social and emotional skills. Kids Clubs include programs like Brick Club, Minecraft, Cooking Club, Guys Group, Girl Power and Swimming.

Brick Club

Brick Club (using the Brick by Brick program) helps create meaningful and positive experiences for children and young people through play with Lego. Children and young people are supported to make friends and build on their social and emotional skills in a safe and encouraging environment. During Brick Club, children take part in team-based activities and work together to build a LEGO model, taking turns to play different roles (called the Engineer, Supplier and Builder) until the model is built. Building together involves joint decision-making, communication, social interaction, motor skills, creativity, imagination, problem-solving in a fun, calm and relaxing environment

Over time, children develop a sense of community and belonging through their shared interest in playing with LEGO bricks.

Guys Group

Guys Group aims to use positive male role modelling to support boys to develop essential social and life skills. We focus on encouraging and praising positive behaviour, building self-esteem, and developing leadership qualities. Our program also emphasizes the importance of respect, self-regulation, and creating positive relationships with peers.

Over the course of the program we engage in a wide range of sporting, outdoor, and practical skills, all of which promote teamwork including bike riding, developing their basketball skills and building garden beds.

Girl Power

Girl Power Clubs provide a safe and supportive environment where girls can develop self-confidence, discuss weekly joys and concerns and enjoy empowering creative activities. Girl Power is focussed on building social skills, individuality and identifying strengths, positive friendships, having a growth mindset, gratitude and relaxation, healthy mind, healthy body and resilience.

We explore these topics through movement, worksheets, journals, vibrant discussion, active games, role play and art and craft.

Minecraft

Minecraft is a social skills program which uses the Minecraft game as a fun and engaging tool to help children and young people build communication skills, develop patience, empathy and resilience while having fun. Children and young people are encouraged to work together as a team to build negotiating skills, practice respecting each others opinions and differences and build decision making skills. The game brings children and young people together around a shared interest that creates a multitude of learning opportunities.

Cooking Club

Cooking Club aims to help children and young people build confidence, social skills and emotional wellbeing while learning practical cooking skills. Cooking Club brings children and young people together to learn key life skills such as meal planning and preparation, kitchen safety, healthy food choices and cleaning up as well as social skills like sharing, supporting each other and turn taking in a fun environment with a variety of activities.

Run Beyond Project

We partner with the Run beyond Project to provide this program which uses running and formal learning activities as a tool to build skills in goal setting, commitment and resilience. Young people are supported to prepare to run in a 10km running event and are provided with everything they need such as shoes, running singlet, accommodation if needed and work booklets. This is a fun program where young people have felt a huge achievement after successfully completing their running event.
