The team reviewed the top of Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria (RSD). RSD is an intense emotional reaction to real or imagined/perceived rejection; almost exclusively linked to ADHD and ASD.
The research compares Rejection Sensitivity to Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria by unpacking the similarities and differences, as well as looking at links to trauma. The research highlights strategies for both, so check out the slides attached for more information.

Practice Tip: Connection before Correction

For children and young people who have experienced trauma, nervous systems often operate in a heightened state of arousal, increasing sensitivity to perceived threat or rejection. When this is combined with Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria (RSD), correction can feel especially unsafe and be experienced as rejection rather than guidance.
The image below provides key reminders about why connection before correction is essential for supporting safety, trust, regulation, and learning.
